Events in Yorkshire & Humberside
Over the past few years,
schoolgirls attended a number of events in Yorkshire
& Humberside; you might have been one of
them. You could have been trying your hand at
an engineering challenge, making your own candle
stick, building brick arches or visiting engineering
companies.

Lab in a Lorry Event
Held at the UK Resource Centre for Women in
Science, Engineering and Technology, at Bradford
College. The lab in a lorry event was a joint
initiative organised by the Lets TWIST project
in conjunction with the Institute of Physics
and the Schlumberger Foundation.

Science Safari Event
Girls Taster Event as part of National Science
Week. Held at The Applied Sciences Department
of Bradford College. Event organised by Lets
Twist in conjunction with the Department of
Pure and Applied Social Sciences.

Build a Brighter Future Taster Event
Taster days raising awareness of construction
and engineering opportunities for girls at Bradford
College . Demonstrations and activities included
fabrication and welding, plumbing and motor
vehicle maintenance.

Professional Careers for Women in Construction.
New Mason Properties, Victoria Mills, Shipley.
The day focused on professional careers within
the industry, giving an insight into the roles
of quantity surveyors, project managers and
architects through educational games and also
by receiving talks from role models such as
two civil engineers, an architect and an environmental
consultant.

WISE Outlook Event
Another action packed 3 day Wise Outlook event
where 20 school girls got the opportunity to
meet inspiring women role models from various
engineering disciplines; carry out electronic
activities, design systems for making mass biscuits,
followed by a visit to Fox's Biscuits in Batley
and finally a presentation evening attended
by parents and teachers.

March, 2005 Girl's Bridge Challenge, Grimsby 86 girls from nine secondary
schools compete in bridge-building challenge. Held at Grimsby Institute
of Further and Higher Education.
16th
March, 2005 Engineering Challenge in Scunthorpe. This was an exciting
day where mixed teams from schools in the district got involved in an
exciting engineering challenge. There were lots of Engineering Role models
there to help out and plenty of female one's to show that it's not just
for the boys!
22nd March, 2005 Ideal Boilers arranged a hands on
Engineering Day for girls Girls from local girl guide company got the
chance to visit Ideal Boilers find out about how boilers are made and
meet Female Engineers to show that girls can do it to!
23rd March, 2005 Grimsby Institute was the venue
for a lively Girls Engineering Challenge organised by a mix of different
organisations including Novartis, Humber EBLO and many more
22nd March, 2005 Humberside Engineering and Training
Association put on two events, one for year 12 and 13 girls and one for
local guide companies. The aim was to give girls a practical hands on
go at some engineering tasks.
8th April, 2005 Withernsea High School and College
of Technology gave girls a real chance to have a go at, building brick
arches, electrical wiring, wood working, tiling and many other things.
The girl were taught by an all female team of crafts women to show that
women really do these things.
